Hanjiang Fm
Type Locality and Naming
Pearl River Mouth Basin (offshore). Named in 1981 by Zhong Shuixian and others. The named section is located in No.1 of Guangdong Xinjiang basin, Zhujiangzui (Pearl River Mouth) Basin, Guangdong; the reference section is located in PY27-2-1 in Baiyun Basin.
Lithology and Thickness
The lithology thickness varies greatly, from west to east, from north to south, the lithology becomes thinner, and the thickness increases, with a thickness of 51 to 1303 m thick. It can be divided into Lower and Upper: the lower part of the Lower section is gray fine conglomerate, and the upper part is dominated by gray silty mudstone, mixed with gray clayey siltstone and thin asphaltene shale. The lower part of the Upper section is dominated by the gray fine conglomerate, occasionally intercalated with silty mudstone and clayey siltstone, with local carbon debris enrichment; and the upper part is gray silty mudstone. The clayey siltstone is intercalated with the fine conglomerate. 51 to 1303 m thick.
Relationships and Distribution
Lower contact
It is in conformity contact with the underlying Lower Miocene Zhujiang Fm.
Upper contact
The overlying Upper Miocene Yuehai Fm is in disconformity contact.
Regional extent
Distributed in the Pearl River area.

Fossils
This Formation contains foraminifera, calcareous ultrafine and spore-pollen fossils. Foraminifera fossils are in the N8—N15 zone. The characteristic elements include Globorotalia siakaensis, Orbulina suturalis, Globigerinoides subquadrilobatus, etc., as well as some benthic species; Calcareous nannofossils It belongs to the NN4-NN9 zone, mainly including Discoaster hamatus, Catinaster coalitus, Cyclicargolithus floridanus, Sphenolithus heteromorphus, Helicosphaera orientalis, etc.; the pollen is the Florschuetzia levipoli-Zonocostatites cf. ramonae combination

Depositional setting
This Formation belongs to the coastal, shallow sea and estuarine delta deposits with an obvious transgressive sequence.
